The “DREAM Act” (Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act) may become a reality next wek. The DREAM Act, initially introduced during the 107th Congress in 2001, provides certain beneficiaries with the opportunity to legalize their status in the USA. Aimed at children who were brought to the USA without legal visa status, The DREAM Act would create a path to lawful permanent residence, and subsequently, US citizenship to those who can prove the following:
Senator Henry Reid recently added The DREAM Act on September 15, 2010 to the Defense Authorization Bill, set to be voted upon the week of September 20th, 2010. The passage of this bill will ensure that millions of children who grew up as Americans will be able to legalize their status, get the education they need to contribute to the economy, and secure permanent residence status after they go to college or serve in the military.
