Leon Wildes Legacy Video

Managing Partner Michael Wildes invites you to watch the firm’s legacy video and learn more about the history of our practice. Featured in the video is Founding Partner Leon Wildes along with Michael Wildes, who narrates the historical journey of Wildes & Weinberg, through the John Lennon case.

Founded in 1960, Wildes & Weinberg is perhaps best known for Leon Wildes' representation of former Beatle John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono. Between 1972 and 1976, Leon represented Lennon and Ono in their struggle to remain in the United States, despite the concerted attempts of the Nixon Administration to deport them.

The case (which included bringing four separate Federal lawsuits) not only resulted in John and Yoko getting their green cards and being able to remain in the United States, but it also led to substantial changes in immigration law and brought to light secretive government practices and undue political influence, that has resulted in greater transparency in the U.S. immigration system.

The book, aptly titled John Lennon v. The USA., is published by Ankerwycke Books, an imprint of ABA Publishing, a division of the American Bar Association and became available in August, 2016. It can be purchased on Amazon.

Throughout his six decades of practice, Founding Partner Leon Wildes represented many talented and highly qualified professionals in addition to scores of distinguished individuals and was considered a dean in the field of immigration law. In 1972, Leon Wildes testified on Illegal Aliens before the Committee on The Judiciary House of Representatives.

A true scholar in the field, Mr. Wildes is a magna cum laude graduate of Yeshiva College (1954) and he completed his law school education at the New York University School of Law in 1957 when he was granted a Jurist Doctor Degree. In 1959 he obtained a Master of Law Degree at the same school.

Mr. Wildes was an Adjunct Professor of Immigration Law at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law for over 32 years. In addition, he supervised the immigration externship program.
