DHS to Announce Rules: Employers Who Use False Social Security Numbers
Department of Homeland Security plans to announce a new set of rules which will require employers to fire workers who use false Social Security numbers.
In an effort to crack down on the numbers of employers who hire illegal immigrants to work, the Department of Homeland Security plans to announce a new set of rules which will require employers to fire workers who use false Social Security numbers. In this year alone, the Social Security Administration plans on sending out at least 140,000 no match letters to employers who have more than 10 workers whose numbers do not match. This could affect over 8 million workers. Once received, if an employee’s documents cannot be verified, the employer will be required to fire the employee or risk up to $10,000.00 in fines for “knowingly” hiring illegal immigrants.
