h-1b cap reached

June 12, 2012: USCIS has announced that on June 11, 2012, it received a sufficient number of petitions to reach the H-1B cap for fiscal year 2013. On June 7, 2012, USCIS also received more than 20,000 H-1B petitions on behalf of persons exempt from the cap under the advanced degree exemption.

USCIS has indicated that it will reject petitions subject to the cap for H-1B specialty occupation workers seeking an employment start date in fiscal year that are received after June 11, 2012.

The fact that the cap was reached more than twice as fast as last year should be seen as a sign that the economy is improving and that the present H-1B cap ceiling is not sufficient to meet the needs of U.S. employers.
