h-1b cap reached!

USCIS has announced that the H-1B cap has been reached during the initial 5 day filing period.

Both the regular (65,000) cap and the U.S. Master’s (20,000) cap were reached.

USCIS will now run lotteries to determine which cases will be accepted and which will be returned. They will run the U.S. Master’s lottery first. Any case not selected will be included in the regular lottery, so U.S. Master’s holders have two chances at being selected.

USCIS subsequently announced that they received a total of 124,000 cases to fill the 85,000 total slots available. This gives applicants about a 2 out of 3 chance of getting selected.
