In May of 2011, CIS announced I-9 Central, a central database and resource center for everything an employer should know about Employment Eligibility Verification – known as I-9s.
CIS has now added a Spanish Language I-9 Central which mirrors the English version of the site answering questions about Form I-9 and such as: how to complete the form correctly, avoid common technical mistakes, assist in determining which documents are acceptable to establish employment authorization and identity and retention information for I-9 Forms.
This new system makes even clearer the overwhelming importance of I-9s and I-9 compliance as the Immigration Service has, in effect, removed the “language barrier” as an excuse for non-compliance with I-9 regulations. This could be an indication of more raids to come to include companies high Spanish-speaking population.
