It is helpful to remind those who travel to Canada frequently for vacation and other reasons about the “travel tips” for US and Canadian citizens issued by CPB.
- The “Know Before You Go” section of the US Customs and Border Protection website (www.cbp.gov) assists travelers in preparing for the process of crossing the border, having appropriate documents ready for inspection, customs and declaration issues and provides monitoring of border wait times for various high use ports of entry.
- The CPB site also advises regarding the difference between goods for personal and commercial use, the prohibition on bringing fruits, meats, dairy/poultry products and/or firewood into the US from Canada without first checking whether they are permitted.
It is important to keep in mind that CPB officers have the authority to conduct enforcement examinations without warrant or attorney representation from car and luggage examination and even personal searches.
