law firm networking event at cardozo law school

Wildes & Weinberg, P.C. Managing Partner Michael Wildes (Cardozo ’90) and Associate Attorney Julie P. Geifman (Cardozo ’13)  recently attended Cardozo’s annual “Small and Medium-Sized Law Firm Networking Event” in March, 2014. During the networking event, Michael Wildes presented information on running a boutique immigration law firm as well as providing helpful tips for those embarking on their legal careers. The event was a huge success.
Just two years ago, Julie P. Geifman, now an Associate Attorney at Wildes & Weinberg, was a student in Michael Wildes’ immigration law course at Cardozo. Many years earlier, Michael sat in the same room to learn about immigration law from his professor, who is also his father and the firm’s senior partner, Leon Wildes. Mr. Leon Wildes, was an adjunct professor of law at Cardozo for over 30 years and is considered a dean in the field. In fact, Cardozo was one of the first law schools to offer a course in immigration law. From father to son, Michael is now an adjunct professor of business immigration law at Cardozo as well.
Julie came to Wildes & Weinberg through Cardozo Law’s Resident Associate Mentor Program (RAMP), an innovative program providing new Cardozo graduates with opportunities to work as full-time associates at small- and medium-sized law firms and corporate legal departments for one year post-graduation. Yet even prior to joining the Wildes & Weinberg team, Julie knew that she wanted to be an immigration attorney. She co-founded Cardozo’s first student organization devoted to immigration law, held many immigration law internships and gained experience through her work with non-profit organizations, including HIAS, Catholic Charities, and Cardozo’s Human Rights Clinic, where she worked with asylum seekers and victims of trafficking. Julie’s expertise is in the area of employment-based immigration cases, including O-1, H-1B, and L-1 visas, as well as Adjustment of Status applications, PERM Labor Certifications, and I-140 petitions. Julie is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the New York City Bar Association.
