breaking news: doma overturned

The US Supreme Court has overturned a key provision of DOMA
(the Defense of Marriage Act), and determined that a same-sex couple legally
married, in a State that has legalized same sex marriage, may not be denied
federal benefits.

Since immigration is a federal benefit, it logically follows
that the immigration service will no longer be able to deny a family based
application for permanent residence based on a same-sex marriage.

The Immigration Service has not issued any statement or
response to this landmark decision as of yet, but we have good reason to
believe that this decision will open the door for a same-sex couple to file a
petition for permanent residence or a dependent visa.

We celebrate this day as a day where the tides of change
have turned and we urge you to make an appointment to see how this might affect
you and your family.
